Swami and His students

Once Swami during his rounds in the Hill View stadium..stopped His car near the rear entrance of the boy's hostel. For some reason the car just waited there for sometime and then sped away to the Mandir..no one could guess as to why Swami's car had just waited there for no apparent reason..
In the evening during Darshan, Swami enquired about a particular boy in the hostel. The Hostel warden started summoning boys to where Swami sat, but none of them was the student Swami was looking for. Swami then mentioned that the boy was a student in the music college. A Music student got up and Swami's face lit up with recognition and He beckoned him to come up front. Everyone was wonderstruck as to why Swami had searched and picked up this particular boy..Swami then asked the boy " Today morning weren't you sitting near the window of your room with a bad headache? You thought how nice it would be if Swami were to come right there. However you did not to lift yourself and look outside the window – I was right there outside the hostel looking at you!" ...Swami had conveyed a profound truth in such a casual and simple way! God is there always waiting, man only needs to lift himself..if he puts that effort then he could experience God.

from a talk given by Mrs. Geeta Mohan Ram...1970

......Swami was speaking to all of us during an interview & there was this lady who kept speaking up every time Swami paused, and she would say "Swami you must come to our town. We are doing a lot of seva, in our town."...The first time she said that Swami ignored her; 2nd time, ignored her; 3rd time, I was beginning to get a little nervous … when Swami was still speaking about something, she said it again: "Swami, you must come to our town."....So Swami looked at her and said: "But I have! I have come to your city!"...."No Swami, You have not come to our city."
Swami suddenly changed the topic, and suddenly looked at her and said: "How is the service going on in your town?
So the lady said: "Swami, when we started off there were 10 families who were putting aside the rice. Now we have a 100 people and we have about 25 kilos of rice that we collect. And we are feeding a lot of people. Swami, the seva is going wonderfully well!"....Swami said: "Oh! Very happy! (In Telugu)
And then suddenly out of the blue, Swami said: "What kind of rice do you use for cooking?"...She said: "Swami, very good rice! 'We' use very good rice!"....Swami said: "No, I am not asking about the other people, I am asking about you! What kind of rice do you keep aside for the seva activity?"
She said: "Good rice." ...Swami said: "Oh really! Good rice?"
She said: "Yes Swami, very good rice!" and in the middle, she kept saying: "But Swami, you must come to our city to see the seva!"
Swami said: "Very good! Very good! Ah! I know 5 rupees rice for the family & 2 rupees rice for the service, for poor feeding!!!"
The lady said, "No, no Swami!"....Swami said: "Yes, Yes! You don't believe me? Obviously the 5 rupees rice quality is better, the 2 rupees rice is not properly cleaned; not a good quality…
She said: "No Swami, good rice Swami."...And then Swami's whole smiling face changed!!!
He said: "You don't believe me? Wait! I will show you. Did you not give the beggar who came to your house & said: 'Mother give me rice?' a whole sack full of rice that you had bundled in a red cloth that you had kept aside for Narayana seva? Did you not give it to that beggar two years ago? You don't believe me? Wait!"
And He walks into the inner room and comes out holding the red sack which was given to the beggar two years back filled with the two rupees rice! "Did you not give this to me? I have been to your city!!!"...The silence was so stunning, so shocking in that room and imagine the embarrassment of that lady!!! She had tears in her eyes. It was such a moving experience for all of us.

In connection with brahmarpanam

Sairam

In interview room
Swami gave fruit to devotee and asked him to eat.

He started to eat,

Swami interrupted and asked "did you tell brahmarapanam before eating.

No swami

Why?

I used to tell before taking breakfast, lunch and dinner swami.

Swami : No no you have to tell each and every time before taking anything in to mouth.

You can say "sai ramarpanam asthu".

This should be for water and other liquid items also.
Swami "what you eat what you are".

Divine Discourse, Aug 25, 1998

Easwara blessed Ganapathi saying, "I have many attributes, but not Your intelligence. Hence, before offering worship to Me, let all people worship You. This is the boon I confer on You." Easwara is a parent who conferred such an honour of a higher status than His own on His son. Hence Ganapathi represents no commonplace principle. He is the embodiment of all potencies. He is the abode of every kind of intelligence. Nothing untoward can happen wherever He is present. Ganapathi occupies the position of one who is the source of all prosperity. Moreover, when He is invoked before any undertaking, there will be no impediments to its completion. People look upon the Vighneswara festival as some routine affair. But Vighneswara embodies all the forms and all the powers of all the deities. It is not enough to worship Him once a year. We must worship Him always.

1961 Dassera Festival at Prashanthi Nilayam

.     On the tenth and last day of Dassera,Beloved Swami did the Vibhuti Abishek. At noon the head of the Vedic scholars approached Swami and asked,"Swami! Can this yagna be concluded today?" Swami said "Why not?". The scholar said " We require 'navaratnas' for the Purnahuti ceremony".     Baba answered:"Bring Me a big empty plate quickly".       As soon as the priest brought the big silver plate,Bhagavan waved His Right HAND,and everybody saw about 100 precious Navaratna stones materialised by Swami falling on the tray, with a sound which is indescribable-- as if the stars were falling on to the plate from the heavenly skies.Everyone was just amazed at their beauty.

Bhagavan Baba once said : "I do not need songs glorifying God,like a gramophone record which produces songs and strings of God's Names without any feeling or yearning whilst being sung.Hours of shouting do not count ;a moment of concentrated prayer from the heart is enough to melt and move God".                       From the book " SaiSmaran" by Dr D.J.Gadhia

Bhagavan at Tirupathi on 03-12-1998.

As usual on that day,in the early morning ,the temple priests were conducting abhishekam to Lord Venkateswara. All the priests tied their eyes with pieces of cloth,so as not to see the naked body of the Lord.Suddenly the chief of the priests felt the Feet of Lord soft like a human feet.Wonder struck, they removed their eyebands and Lo! The fortunate priests found BAGAVAN BABA standing there in place of the stone idol of Lord Venkateswara.         In ecstasy they cried loudly "Baba has come!".  Bhagavan stood there smiling and blessing the priests. They ran out crying " Sathya SAI has come, have His Darsan!" Baba said "I shall stay here, call your people".     Some officers of the temple and other people came there to have the Darsan of Baba.Afterwards Baba disappeared. On 07-12-1998 they went to Whitefield with poornakumbam chanting Veda mantras they had the Darsan of Baba. Baba said " I have come to Thirumala. Why have you come here again?". With this Baba has confirmed His Appearance in Thirumala.

Bhagavan Baba's Amazing Grace at Aanamalai on 11-5-1967

.                        When Swami alighted from His car,He found that it was a motely crowd that was waiting in the school ground. As He was walking towards the dais, they were shouting 'vaazhga vaazhga'!.They were clapping and whistling! It smacked of a political meeting and not a spiritual gathering. Swami lighted the sacred lamp ,unveiled the plaque in the front hall of the new building and immediately started returning to the car.Jostling through the crowd, a ' Kurukkal' was ushering in,his lame and blind son towards Baba.Looking at the boy with compassion,Swami started singing the bhajans ' Govinda Krishna vittalae'. Within a second the atmosphere had changed serene and as Swami finished the first line of the bhajans song, the boy got his vision. The astounded crowd, repeated the first line of the bhajan  song. Then Baba started the second line 'venu  gopala Krishna vittalae' and applied the vibhuthi on the boy's lame leg.The lifeless flesh straightened and the boy stood up. The crowd was in ecstasy. Now,Swami sang the third line,'panduranga vittalae',Lo! Behold! The boy slowly walked towards Swami.Swami blessed the boy with His Abhayahastha and the kurukkal offered his grateful bandana to Swami with flood of tears streaming from his eyes. And Swami's car left before the crowd could recollect and understand all that had happened.               From the book 'Divine Footsteps'. MY LIFE IS MY MESSAGE (MIRACLES IN MY LIFE) - PART 2

Recently we had been on tour to Ooty and unfortunately we lost a costly new mobile. My husband and me were so upset and searched all way long.. But immediately in a short while after realizing the loss, we saw Swami’s photo (a big one) in a bus.. We felt relaxed seeing His image. We filed Fir and were returning back to room when on the way we saw Swami’s Ashram, we felt so consoling.. Miracle here was, my hubby had been to Ooty for nearly 15 times but this was the first time he saw the ashram.. We felt as if Swami was trying to console us. But unfortunately all the gates were closed.. We felt sad but anyway we thought atleast we could have darshan of His ashram and were about to return when we heard of a bell… Surprised were we.. It was as if Swami was calling us “Wait don’t go”.. We ran hither and thither to know who it was. But we realized that we did not hear it from the Ashram, we heard it from a nearby sheet room.. We went there and found there was only one picture of Swami and a small boy was showing Agarbathi to Swami. We felt so happy that atleast we could have His darshan here. As soon as we prayed and were about to move the boy came and told us.”You are lucky the security will open the gates and doors of the ashram”.. We were so astonished.. We felt so happy and went inside and had a nice time in that silent atmos. We came out and spent 5 minutes in taking snaps etc but at last inside car we realized that we could not find the boy anywhere.. Swami is great…

Another miracle in life that was so astonishing… in our mobile we had Swami’s picture in desktop. Once at home, my husband happened to note that there was Shirdi Baba’s picture in desktop. My husband asked me and his parents but none had changed it and all saw that Shirdi Baba’s picture was there. My mother in law told me that may be shirdi baba is reminding about the Vratham that I had committed before Shirdi Baba sometime ago but till that day I dint perform it.. But I told her “its ok but in this case maybe someone might have changed the desktop”.. You wont believe, within few minutes the desktop picture again changed to Sathya Sai Baba.. Only then I realized my mother in law’s words … Shirdi Baba had come to remind me about Vratham….

Each and every moment seams to be a miracle in life when we start believing the Almighty[whichever form it might be]..Realisation is essential..

MY LIFE IS MY MESSAGE - MIRACLES IN MY LIFE

Sairam,
Miracles that took place in my life..

My parents were working from the day one. And I was left at my neighbour’s place to take care once I return back from school.. When I was doing my 2nd std, I was chased by some rogues, those rogues were none other than the neighbours’ sons.. But, with Swami’s grace I ran away each time I saw them.. I was so sensitive from the beginning of my life that I never liked a male touching me or talking much with me.. But, each time I ran seeing them, I used to cry sitting at a distant place.. But, I heard a voice, consoling me.. “Don’t worry I am there to take care of you”. I felt so consoling and since I was too small to realize whose it was.. I just nodded my head and wiped my eyes and went to play.. After that incident, the voice came with me each and every place I went.. (I mean, whenever I was sad or hurted, I heard the voice consoling me). I loved that voice, no matter who it was..

Once, when I was in 4th std, our neighbour called my mother to accompany them to Whitefield for Swamy’s darshan. My mother had belief on Swamy but not a devotee.. So she accepted it.. Unfortunately on the day of the trip to Whitefield, my mother was not well. So she insisted my father to take me, he argued with my mother that he never believed all those magicians so he cannot take me.. But my mother told him not to disappoint me.. So my father took me with him.
Since I was a kid, I was asked to sit in the second row.. Bhajans started and slowly, Swami, smilingly came walking from inside his room.. Wow that was a blissful experience.. I don’t know why I was filled with tears but it was bliss so I wept… He came near our line first and to a child just before us, he wrote in a slate “OM” and told the child.. “Petko, Petko ra” (Hold, Hold it) I could recognize the voice. Yes, the voice that consoled me often was none other than Swami.. and that was the day.. I completly surrendered myself to Swamy..

Then on, each day I could realize small miracles of Him.. While I was in 6th std, we came to chennai and I started suffering from wheezing. It went to an extreme that my mother planned to take me to a homeo doctor to cure it permanently.. Fortunately, the homeo doctor we approached was a Sai devotee, and she was really very blessed that Swami had gifted her with Hiranya garbha Lingam.. She shared her experiences that she had cured many diseases just praying that lingam. She gave me the ligam in my hand and asked to hold it on praying swami to cure me.. You believe or not, it cured me completely for 6 years.. Till I completed my 12th std, with Swami’s grace I dint have wheezing.

When I was in 10th std, I suffered from fits and was unconscious, truly speaking, without even breathe I lied for few minutes, my mother prayed Swamy with cries and He got my body back to life… And that incident was really the greatest miracle in 2 sense.. one was Swamy gave me life back. Second was, I was a very meagerly studying and a very reserved and fearful character, after tat incident, astonishingly, my characters completely changed to a person who is good in studies, very outspoken and frank, and a very bold character. To be frank, I was selected as one of the ‘prefect’ of my school during my 12th std. Also, Swamy selected me as a Best Student of Balavikas and gave me an award during my 12th std.

After my 12th std, I had no interest to do my studies in regular college, as our family was financially very poor. My mother was the only earning member whose earnings was not enough for even our proper food.. Our samithi members told us that Swami was so kind enough that he gives free education hence I was asked to try there.. Myself and my mother went there and I wrote my exams but unfortunately Swami dint will me to join there, maybe because my mother would be lonely. So my uncle had come to help me apply for distance education in some universities, but unfortunately, my father beat him without a reason, that made me feel so bad. It was in a fraction of moment that Swamy made me tell stubbornly that I cant live with my father so my mother too had to come with me.. I was told by all my family members that I should not waste my life by studying in distance, they told they will give me money… But I told that I should start working and study in distance..

Swami was always kind hearted. My aunt had called up an institution and there, based on my marks, gave me scholarship such that my college fees and hostel fees everything were being sponsored by them and again Swami was kind enough that I was nominated for the best student of the college(I dint get the award, but am still happy that my name came in the nomination list of 3 people) and was selected and sent to represent our college to celebrate the 150th year success of our university.. also Swami made me a silver medalist in UG.. I still cannot believe all these.. I was a very stupid girl but once after reformation Swami was really great enough to keep me and my mother happy.
AS soon as my college was over, I got job within a week’s time.. This is also a miracle..

Within an year of my working, my marriage got settled with a family who were also Swami believers. Once our invitation was printed, before circulation, we wanted to attend bhajan. During the bhajan, we kept our invitation at the lotus feet of Swamy and you wont believe, we had a blissful experience again.
On all our heads there showered the yellow rice(otherwise called akshadhai) from the roof and on our invitation there fell a mango leaf(holy during marriage) and while distribution of sweets, we got turmeric seed(Manja kazhangu in tamil)..

Also, they never asked dowries etc and co operated so much and Swamy arranged our marriage in a very grand manner.. Still astounded how it happened so grandly because we dint have savings and not a penny to arrange MARRIAGE. Swami had arranged and made me married in such a Manner....

DIVINE DISCOURSE, DEC 25, 1989

Embodiments of Divine Love, God is complete love incarnate. This Love shines equally in every human being. The fragrance of a flower remains the same, whether it is held in the right hand or the left. Likewise, God has no distinctions, such as the favoured and excluded. Different persons, proceeding from their own likes and dislikes, attribute to the Divine, the differences existing in their own minds. The sandalwood tree imparts its fragrance, even to the axe that fells it. Likewise, God is ever prepared to love, foster and protect everyone equally without any distinction..

DIVINE DISCOURSE, 25 AUGUST 2009

If you continue to imitate other cultures, your innate strength and purity will gradually diminish. Therefore, do not imitate others. For example a lion attacks an animal only when it is hungry. It does not go about killing every animal that comes across. Even a wild beast like the lion has the capacity to restrain itself. Limitless ego, anger and desire will only lead you astray. You have to divert your mind from such a situation and follow the noble path, so that you do not cause harm to others nor do you suffer in the process. Do not utilize your strength and power indiscriminately. You see the modern children enjoying unrestrained freedom. Freedom no doubt is good and permissible, but should be within a limit. Only then it acquires value. Trying to amass wealth and being over-smart will only lead you to a danger

PAROPAKARARTHAM IDAM SHARIRAM

What is the purpose of human birth? It is not merely to eat, drink and make merry. Paropakarartham Idam Shariram (human body is meant to serve others). Man should dedicate himself to the service of society. God has endowed man with all powers. But, he is bound by the senses, which lead him to both good and evil ways. Hence, it is the foremost duty of man to make proper use of the senses. One who lacks sense control is worse than an animal. Firstly, one should get rid of one's animal qualities. Only then, can one rise to the level of the Divine.
- BABA

DIVINE DISCOURSE, UPANISHAD VAHINI…2

The Supreme Lord is the prompter of the activity and the dispenser of the consequence. He is beyond the intellect. Like the spokes of a wheel that radiate from the hub, that leads from all directions towards the centre, all creation radiates from Him. To reach the central hub and to know that all spokes radiate from it, the mind is the instrument. Brahmam (The Supreme Lord) is the target to be reached by the arrow of the mind. Have your mind fixed on the target. Using the knowledge of the Upanishads (ancient Indian scriptures) as the bow, shoot straight and hard to reach your goal. Train the mind with single pointed attention to meditate on Him, to worship Him in your heart. Let Him be the central hub to which all nerves from all directions in your body look up to. If this process is followed, you can realize the Glory of the Lord within you.

SAYEE

DIVINE DISCOURSE, SEP 2, 2009

God is omnipresent, though at times He incarnates in one form at one place. God is only one. He is not two, though people refer to Him by different names and forms. "Ekam Sath, Viprah Bahudhah Vadhanti" (Truth is One, but wise refer to it by various names). It is only our illusion that we ascribe different names to God like Rama, Krishna, Jesus, Allah, etc. The Sun is only one, and it appears in different parts of the world at different times. It may be 9:00 a.m. in India but it is night time in the USA. So also, the same one God dwells in different people in different forms. Since your perceptions are different, you ascribe different names and different forms. Always realize that God is present every where, in every country and in every individual. He is Omnipresent

PICTURE IN YOURSELF THE DIVINE LORD

Progress in devotion or meditation means the attainment of concentration. Never lose the sight of the Divine Form which you have pictured for yourself. Don't allow the mind to wander on distractions. Be convinced that the distractions of sight and sound are designed to scatter your attention away from the Divine Form. Be on your guard, do not be deluded and never forget the auspicious form. Picture in yourself the Divine Lord, in whom is immersed all creation. What you will experience and when depends upon His Grace. Your mission is to practice one-pointed concentration on Him. It does not depend upon the length of time, or the number of births you have taken. Some may realize the goal even in a few days. It completely depends upon your dedication, devotion and relentless practice. The time cannot be calculated or reasoned out. It is all His Grace.
- Sandeha Nivarini

REALISE STRENGTH IN MEN

Man is the storehouse of every mineral, metal and energy that the earth contains. He has in him electric, magnetic and several other forms of energy. Sadly, man does not realise this. There is the enormous strength of Divinity latent in him that enables him to do anything that he sets his mind on. Man's many achievements are mere glimpses of the great potential that is latent in him. All he needs is to have the will and the determination to realise this strength and potential.
- BABA

BECOME ONE WITH THE DIVINE

Education should be divorced from jobs. Its purpose should be the acquisition of Vijnana (the highest knowledge). That is the concept upheld by Bharathiya Culture. Students will become ideal citizens of the nation only when they develop self-confidence and the feeling of spiritual oneness. Develop the spirit of sacrifice and become defenders of the nation's integrity and honour. You must strive to promote the welfare of society. Eschew ideas of "me" and "mine". You will then become one with the Divine. When you identify yourself with all, you can derive infinite joy.
- BABA

TALK ONLY ABOUT LORD

Even an ounce of experience is useful than a ton of learning! Many people lecture hours after hours things that are learn by rote. Can one become great by merely the length or the beauty of the lectures? That is like vomiting a swallowed meal. Give up this talk about others being bad or wrong. Develop your faith and devotion. Strengthen your discipline to meditate on the Lord and engage yourself in beneficial deeds. Speak only what will bring good. Worship the Lord, keep Him ever in your memory. If you are immersed in these, you will not worry at all about the right and wrong of others.
- Sandeha Nivarini
